How to get to Bochum

By plane:

The nearest bigger airports are Düsseldorf International Airport and Cologne Bonn Airport.

Düsseldorf International Airport has its own railway station, Düsseldorf Airport Station. The SkyTrain cabin railway connects the railway station to the terminal (when the SkyTrain is not in service, there is a bus shuttle instead). Ticket vending machines are located at the SkyTrain stations. For your travel to Bochum you need a VRR ticket price level D, we suggest the Einzelticket Preisstufe D, costs: 10,90 €). Several trains reach Bochum main station, amongst others RE 1 towards Hamm, RE 11 towards Paderborn and RE 6 towards Minden. The journey takes from 35 to 46 minutes, depending on the chosen train. See the homepage of the local transport operator for more information: VRR.

From Cologne Bonn Airport you have to take a train to "Deutz, Bf Deutz/Messe" and change trains there to get to Bochum. Either you take the RE 1 towards Hamm from there or you have to go via Düsseldorf main station and change trains once more. You will need about 2 hours for the journey and have to get a NRW-Ticket, we would suggest the SchöneFahrtTicketNRW Erwachsene (costs: 16 €). Check the homepage of the local transport operator for more information: VRR.

By train:

Bochum is well reachable by train. Check the homepage of the local transport operator VRR or of the Deutsche Bahn (German Railway) for planning your journey to Bochum main station.

By car:

You can reach Bochum by expressway, using the A43, A44 (east of Bochum) or the A40 (north of Bochum). The university is located near the A43, use the exit "Querenburg", it is signposted from there. The city center is reached via the A40, exit "Bochum Zentrum" or the A43, exit "Bochum Riemke".

How to get to the university and the conference hall

The Veranstaltungszentrum (VZ) is located underneath the cafeteria ("Mensa") of the university. The conference takes place inside the VZ on floor 04, room 82. Click here for a map of the university.

By Subway:

The university is accessible by the subway line U35. Coming from the city center ("Bochum Rathaus") or Bochum main station you have to take the U35 towards "Hustadt". Get off at "Ruhr-Universität". It takes about 10 minutes from the main station to the university. From 6am to 7pm the subway is leaving every 5 minutes. (For the ride you will need a VRR ticket price level A.) Reaching the university, keep to the right (on your left side there will be the Unicenter with some shops and restaurants). Keep straight on until you see the library in front of you and go downstairs right to the library. Then you will come to the most eye-catching building of the university, the Audi Max. The cafeteria and the Veranstaltungszentrum (VZ) with the conference hall will be right behind it. Pass the Audi Max at the right and enter the next building to your left. Turn right after the entrance and take the elevator at the end of the corridor. The VZ is on floor 04. The room 82 will be to your right, passing a glass door.

Map of the Veranstaltungszentrum

By car:

If you want to go by car, you will have to leave the "Universitätsstraße" at the exit "Uni Mitte". It is recommended to park your car in the sections P 7a/b or P 8a/b. The Veranstaltungszentrum (VZ) is right above the parking area. Go upstairs and turn left. After a few more stairs downwards you will find the entrance of the Veranstaltungszentrum.Inside turn left, passing a glass door, there is room 82.

VRR-Tickets

In the whole city of Bochum you will need tickets price level A for longer rides, or Kurzstrecke, if you travel up to three stations. If you are travelling alone and do not plan to go the route (or another one classified the same price level) for more than three times, we suggest the Einzelticket (single fare ticket) of the respective price level. If you are travelling in a group up to five persons the best ticket will be a Gruppenticket (group ticket), which is valid a whole day. For up to four rides by one person or perhaps two rides by two persons on different days the best ticket is the 4erticket (4 trip ticket). Stamp your ticket once for each person and ride. See the website of the local transport company VRR for more information.
