Vortrag von Thomas Mayer am Dienstag, 22.10.2013, 16:00 Uhr

Mittwoch, 09. Oktober 2013. Aus der Kategorie 'Vortragsreihe'. Das Sprachwissenschaftliche Institut lädt ein zu dem Vortrag von Thomas Mayer (Marburg): Interactive Visualizations of Linguistic Data --
With the ever growing number of electronically available corpora and linguistic databases, the computational analysis of natural language allows for the search of linguistic patterns in a broad range of data. However, the vast amount of information and the need to analyze the interplay of a multitude of factors call for an additional component that renders potential patterns more easily accessible to the human perception.

This talk will give an overview of my own research on graphical representations for linguistic data with a special focus on interactive visualization techniques that are specifically tailored to the characteristics of language data. An integral part of these techniques is to provide an at-a-glance overview over large amounts of data, while at the same time enabling the researcher to zoom in on individual aspects of potentially interesting patterns. The usefulness of such a visualization component will be illustrated with data from typologically oriented research.

Der Vortrag findet in Raum 3/159 statt.
