Vortrag von Tonya Kim Dewey am Dienstag, 19.11.2013, 16:00 Uhr

Dienstag, 05. November 2013. Aus der Kategorie 'Vortragsreihe'. Das Sprachwissenschaftliche Institut lädt ein zu dem Vortrag von Tonya Kim Dewey (Bergen/Ghent): Prosody and the Head Parameter in Early Germanic --
This talk will be an overview of material from my forthcoming book, Prosody and the Head Parameter in Early Germanic: A Sign-Based Construction Grammar Approach (Brill). The operating assumption is that in some languages that show a mixture of OV and VO behavior (Haider’s Type 3), motivation for the choice of OV or VO in a particular structure can be found in the prosody.

In the first part of the talk, I will outline methods for reconstructing the prosody of a language no longer spoken, and for which no audio recordings exist. The sample language chosen is Old High German. In the second part of the talk, I will look at how prosody affects word order in two different construction types: Verb-Second, and prepositional phrases. Examples will be taken from Old Saxon, Gothic, and Old Norse- Icelandic.

Der Vortrag findet in Raum 3/159 statt.
