Prof. Dr. Eva Belke

Bild

Eva Belke is Professor for Psycholinguistics at the Department of Linguistics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Her work focuses on two lines of research: In the first one, she works on lexical retrieval processes across the lifespan and in healthy and impaired speakers. In the second one, she investigates, from a psycholinguistic perspective, language learning and methods of language teaching for children at pre-school and primary school age, particularly those who acquire German as a second language. She has graduated in Clinical Linguistics/Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Bielefeld (Germany), from where she also obtained a PhD in Psycholinguistics. Before coming to Bochum, she spent three years as a post doc and a lecturer in Birmingham (UK) and three years at the University of Bielefeld, where she completed her habilitation.

Prof. Dr. Sonia Kandel

Bild

Sonia Kandel is Professor for Psycholinguistics at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France. She conducts research at the Speech and Cognition Department of the GIPSA-Lab (CNRS). Her work is devoted to understanding how we write. She investigates the processes that are involved in spelling retrieval as well as the motor components of movement production. Writing processes are approached in a developmental perspective, through different research methods (behavioural studies, neuroimagery (fMRI), physiology (electromyography)) and in several languages. She also examined how bilingualism impacts the strategies the children use when learning to read and write simultaneously in more than one language. Her research also focuses on the pathology of writing processes like dyslexia and dysgraphia. Sonia Kandel’s research work on writing has been successfully transferred to schools. She created an innovative teaching method that was published by Spanish editor Santillana and is widely used in many schools in Latin America and Spain, from kindergarten to 6th grade.

Jessica Ernst

Jessica Ernst is working as a research fellow in the Litkey project at the Department of Linguistics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. She is interested in age-of-acquisition effects in language production, language processing in mono- and bilinguals, and the processes underlying written word production in children and adults. In her PhD project she looks into orthography acquisition and written word production in children with German as a first and as a second language.
